Using key biochemical makers as early warning sensors of poor uterine healing: a systematic review

Abstract:
Poor healing of the uterus, particularly after surgical injuries like caesarean sections or within the context of intrauterine adhesions (IUA), is determined by a combination of persistent local inflammation and tissue ischemia (hypoxia). These factors disrupt the normal remodelling process, leading to thin, fibrotic scars or uterine dehiscence. Key markers of this impaired process include: markers of uterine ischemia and hypoxia, markers of chronic inflammation, molecular markers of poor scar formation. These markers can be used as early warning alert that can lead the medical team towards establishing a personalized course of medication focused on accelerating wound healing and reducing scar size, thus improving reproductive outcome.
