Abstract:
Electron beam effects on silica-based optical fibers were investigated. In order to evaluate their suitability for high-dose radiation detection, the responses of both single-mode and multimode optical fibers were studied. The degradation of optical fibers was investigated by Radiation Induced Attenuation (RIA) and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). The radiation resistance is given by the fiber core material and its cladding. The results demonstrated that single-mode optical fibers possess a better radiation resistance, making them useful for dosimetry applications in high-radiation environments.
