Abstract:
Ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions provide the opportunity to study the quark–gluon plasma (QGP), a state of matter of deconfined quarks and gluons that existed in the first microseconds after the Big Bang. An important observable used to characterize the properties of QGP is the anisotropic flow (i.e., conversion of initial spatial asymmetry into an anisotropy in the final state momentum space). Anisotropic flow is described by the harmonic flow coefficients vn obtained in a Fourier decomposition of the azimuthal distribution of produced particles with respect to the symmetry plane of the collision. These coefficients are observed to vary from event to event due to fluctuations in the shape of the initial state of the collision system, which allow an efficient selection of events corresponding to a specific initial geometry. For those events, we present results on centrality and transverse momentum (pT) dependence of the elliptic (v2) and triangular (v3) flow coefficients for inclusive and identified (π±, K±, p+) particles in Pb–Pb collisions at √sNN = 5.02 TeV recorded by the ALICE detector.
