Abstract: This presentation describes the preparation of an experiment dedicated to measuring the neutron inelastic scattering cross sections on 92Zr at the neutron source GELINA of the Joint Research Center (EC-JRC) of the European Commission in Geel, Belgium. The study is motivated by the importance of zirconium in nuclear reactor technology and by the limited experimental data available for the 92Zr(n,n’) reaction.
The work includes a description of the experimental setup, consisting of the GELINA neutron source, the GAINS HPGe detector array, and the Time-Of-Flight method. The preparation phase involved the analysis of existing experimental and evaluated data, TALYS 2.0 model calculations, detector efficiency measurements using a 152Eu source, and the beam time estimation. Preliminary measurements confirm the capability of the setup to identify the main γ-ray transitions of 92Zr. The results are expected to provide a precise and reliable dataset meant to improve evaluated nuclear data libraries and support advanced nuclear reactor applications.
