Abstract:
Physics-based sustainable food systems science is an interdisciplinary approach that integrates knowledge and concepts from food science and physics to develop and optimize food systems that are economically, socially, and ecologically sustainable. By integrating the principles of physics (strong interaction, weak interaction, electromagnetism and gravitation) into the study and development of food systems, it is possible to create innovative and sustainable solutions to current and future challenges related to food security, natural resources and global sustainability. Food systems and the bioeconomy can be modeled as open thermodynamic systems composed of seven key components, where solar energy, gases, and nutrients are transformed into biomass.
