Abstract:
This study explores the development of an integrated STEM curriculum in high school, focusing on applications in medical physics and biology. It aims to provide the theoretical and empirical basis for a 12th-grade interdisciplinary elective course, “Applications of Radiation in Medicine and Biology,” while examining teachers’ perceptions of STEM education. A descriptive quantitative study was conducted with 130 STEM teachers using a 5-point Likert-scale questionnaire. The findings show strong support for integrated STEM approaches, with most teachers recognizing their relevance for developing labor market skills and expressing willingness to implement such courses. Key challenges include limited time in the school schedule, insufficient resources, and a perceived rigid curriculum. The results also highlight the need for professional development in digital technologies and integrated STEM pedagogies. Overall, the study supports the feasibility and relevance of introducing interdisciplinary physics-based courses in secondary education.
