Abstract: In the context of climate change and the energy crisis, the need to develop renewable energy sources is evident, and one of the solutions is wind energy. Based on simple physical phenomena for generating electricity, it proves to be advantageous to cover a significant proportion of national energy consumption.
This paper explores the various CFD software available and the simulations that can be done on a laptop, even if they do not reach the level of those performed on a supercomputer. Computer simulations of small turbines can be compared with wind tunnel data to verify their validity. Three types of wind turbines are investigated: horizontal axis, Darrieus and Savonius. Also, following the simulations, it was possible to calculate the power generated by these types of wind turbines and their power factor for real conditions of use.
